Kind-hearted team supports Christmas toy appeal with generous donation

Colleagues from Terry Smiths coffin factory have shown their generosity by supporting Central England Co-op’s Christmas Toybox Appeal.

The team have been busy raising money and collecting toys to donate to the appeal to help make sure as many children as possible have a gift to open this festive season.

The colleagues have donated themselves and urged suppliers to support the appeal and have so far collected toys and raised hundreds of pounds to purchase even more.

Coffin Factory Manager Dave Clarke said supporting the appeal had been a really positive team effort after a challenging time.

He said: “So far we have raised almost £500 to purchase toys and a number of colleagues have also brought in toys as well, while our suppliers have also been great as we quite often get Christmas gifts from them but we asked if they could support the toy appeal instead this year.
“The team have been really keen to back the appeal as it is a really nice thing to do. A lot of them have children and the opportunity to support children who may go without this year is something they thought was really worthwhile.
“We hope to donate about 60-70 toys in the end. To be honest it has been a real team effort. When we asked the colleagues about it, we got no negativity at all and they were really happy to support what is a great cause.”

The great contribution of the Terry Smiths team during the Coronavirus pandemic was recently recognised at Central England Co-op’s Leading Brilliance Awards, where they were recognised with the coveted Trading Team of the Year prize.

The judges said the team had delivered ‘exceptional customer service’ and ‘worked around the

clock to ensure no families were let down during these difficult times’.

Dave added: “It was a fantastic achievement and a proud moment for the team. Everyone here contributed towards it and it was lovely to receive recognition for all our efforts.”

The Central England Co-op Christmas Toybox Appeal continues until December 9. Items that can be donated have to be new, unwrapped and can include puzzles, games, soft toys, outdoor toys, books, dolls/figures, CDs/DVDs and art materials.
