An animal rescue centre based in Ashbourne has been boosted by a special donation from Central England Co-op to support its work during these uncertain times.
The Ark Rescue and Rehoming Centre has been handed £100 in vouchers by our Northern Membership and Community Council (MCC) to give it support while its doors continue to remain closed to the public because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Central England Co-op in Ashbourne has been a keen supporter of the home, hosting a pet food bank at its Blenheim Road and Dig Street food stores and sponsoring a dog pen at the centre.
Tanya Noon, Member and Community Relations Officer at Central England Co-op, said: “The MCC was eager to give support to the fantastic work that the ARK Rescue and Rehoming Centre provides for stray dogs and cats which we have seen through our close links to the organisation
“Like many good causes and organisations, the Ark has seen its regular fundraising activities and events which it relies on limited as a result of the pandemic, so we hope the donation of these vouchers will be a small help in assisting them to continue the great job they do.”
Wanda Mielczarek, trustee of the Ark, said the donation of the vouchers was a ‘wonderful surprise’ and they will be of much use to the home in supporting the animals and in their fundraising efforts.
She said: “It was a wonderful surprise to receive £100 in Co-op gift vouchers and these will be used in raffles and to buy some treats for the cats and dogs.
"We really value the partnership we have with the MCC and for the ongoing encouragement and support given to us by the Society."
