Our retail heroes showed us the way to Amarillo for BBC’s Big Night In

Colleagues at our Central England Co-op stores joined fellow key workers in rising to a challenge set by much-loved comedian Peter Kay for The Big Night In fund-raising event, whilst the society also donated £50,000 to good causes.

Peter Kay recreated his iconic music video for the Tony Christie smash hit ‘(Is This The Way To) Amarillo’ for the live show on BBC One supporting Children in Need and Comic Relief and asked key workers across the country to be a part of it by posting their attempts on social media.

Teams across our trading area rose to the challenge with their own takes on the video, with some impressive dance moves on show.

There were also some colourful outfits featured as colleagues dressed up to raise awareness of the fund-raiser which raised millions for charity.

For the teams who have been working around the clock over the last few weeks to ensure their communities have food and essentials, The Big Night In proved an enjoyable event and brought some great positivity for colleagues and customers.

The fund-raiser itself raised millions for the cause and we were delighted to donate £50,000 ourselves, which because the Government is match funding all donations, will end up actually being £100,000.
