Central England Co-op can today reveal the launch date and give a first look at the progress of its brand-new community store in Grendon, Atherstone.
The Society will officially open its new store just off the A5, Watling Street in the former Boot Inn public house on Friday, 4 December offering the local community vital food and essentials on their doorstep in these uncertain times.
The store will feature self-scan till points, bicycle repair station, a customer car park, a full range of products, a free hot and cold water refill station, phone charging area and customer toilet with baby changing facilities.
It will also include a food bank collection point supporting Ediblelinks Atherstone as it continues to manage the increased demand caused by the Coronavirus outbreak
In line with the latest Government guidance, the store will have a range of social distancing measures in place, including special floor markings, one-way system, external queuing, hygiene measures such as a hand sanitising station upon entry and safety devices such as plastic screens at checkouts and face coverings and visors for all colleagues.
Grendon Central England Co-operative Store Manager Lee Mullis said: “We are delighted that we will finally be opening the doors and welcoming the community into our brand-new store in Grendon.
“These are not the circumstances that we ever imagined launching this fantastic new store in, but we are looking forward to being there with the vital food and essentials locals need in these uncertain times and to being a part of a great community.”
The pictures showcase how both the outside and inside of the store have almost been completed and is ready for thousands of products to be stacked onto the shelves ahead of the official opening.
The car park has been finished, the store’s frontage is almost complete and special eco-friendly fridges and lighting have started to be installed to back up the retailer’s eco-friendly ethos.
The Watling Street Co-operative food store will be open from 7am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday.
The store will offer a wide range of products from everyday necessities to something a little more special.
This includes fresh fruit and vegetables, an in-store bakery offering breads and pastries, chilled beers and wines, fresh and frozen product, Irresistible product ranges, as well as a great selection of food to go.
It will also offer Lottery, Paypoint and foreign currency, as well as a Costa Coffee machine, customer seating inside and out, a free cash machine and a lifesaving defibrillator.
