Make your Dad feel special

We have some great ideas for making Father’s Day special this year whilst keeping everyone in the family safe.

  1. Previous research has shown that sons and daughters tend to leave buying a Father’s Day gift until the last minute, with peak buying of presents and cards occurring the day before. This year the retailer suggests customers plan for the 21st June occasion to avoid any queues, helping to maintain social distancing in stores and to be sure to get their Dad’s favourite treat.

2. Those living with Dad can pamper him with his favourite breakfast to start the day well, whether it’s a full English or delicious fresh-baked pastries from their local Central England Co-op in-store bakery.

3. We have a great selection of cards in stores from 10 June and a range of craft materials are also available if children want to make their own personalised greeting to post or drop off.

4. Another simple, yet touching idea is to decorate a jar and fill it with his favourite sweets or for a more instant gift, classic confectionery choices on offer include Cadbury Heroes (185g, £2), Maltesers (310g, £4.50) and Milk Tray (360g, £4).

5. Those Dads who are shielding or self-isolating will enjoy a gift you can drop at the door if you don’t live too far away. Some treats baked at home will make a delightful surprise. Check out the recipe pages at https://www.centralengland.coop/food/recipes/baking for inspiration.

6. A green-fingered father will enjoy something from the range of plants at local stores to brighten his living spaces, whether they are indoor blooms or garden greenery.

7. You could meet for a picnic or barbecue with Dad – current government rules state that up to six people from two different households can meet outside in a garden or public place such as a park as long as you stay 2 metres apart. Pick up everything you need for a Father’s Day feast in store from the chiller cabinets and in store bakery.

8. If you can’t meet, a video call for a virtual cuppa will also help to make his day memorable. Our “You are Tea riffic” mug (£2) will help to mark the occasion accompanied by some Dad’s Stuff biscuits (£6).

9. Lockdown has mostly been all about staying local, so keep it that way for Father’s Day with something different from our range of local beers. Since going to the pub is off the social calendar until at least later in the summer, try leaving a range on Dad’s doorstep for a little private beer tasting with Purity UBU Amber Ales, Purity Pure Gold and Purity Mad Goose (all 500ml, 4 for £7).

10. A range of beers, wines and spirits specially selected for Father’s Day will be available in stores from 10 June including Diablesse Clementine Spiced Rum (70cl, £33.00), Tamnavulin Speyside Malt (70cl, £22.00) and Finca Las Moras Barrel Select Malbec (75cl, £6.25).
