One of our incredible colleagues has been recognised after reaching 35 years serving her local community in Alvaston where both her mother and grandmother also used to work for the retailer.
Cathryn Towler has worked for the Society at its Holbrook Road store for her entire career, at one point joining her mum Gwen and grandmother Joyce to become the third generation to serve the community in Alvaston with Central England Co-op.
The 53-year-old was presented with flowers and gifts as she marked the milestone during the most challenging period of her career as she and her colleagues work around the clock to keep the community supplied with food and essentials during these uncertain times.
Cathryn, who enjoys coach trip holidays to Scotland and collects fine china in her spare time away from the frontline, said she had thoroughly enjoyed her time at Holbrook Road.
She said: “I got involved with the Co-op when my grandmother worked here, and I joined a training scheme. 35 years later I’m still going and still really enjoy it.
“It is lovely to enjoy going to work and the team are really friendly. Even during these tough times, the customers have been nice and friendly, and it makes it a pleasure to come to work.”
Holbrook Road Store Manager Jack Steer presented Cathryn with her gift to mark her long service and said she was a real asset to the team.
She said: “Cathryn has had to overcome many challenges in life but is very good in her role, always doing what is asked of her with a smile on her face.
“She is a great member of the team and has her own areas of responsibility which she enjoys. During these challenging times she has been a great help as part of a fantastic team here in Alvaston.”
