Central England Co-op launches funeral home with a difference in Atherstone

Central England Co-op Funeralcare has officially opened an innovative Funeral Arrangement Office Pod made from responsibly sourced materials to support families in Atherstone.

The new building is based next to the Central England Co-op Food Store, in Station Street, and a total of £12,000 has been invested in the new venture.

The pod had previously been temporarily housed at our Castle Donington Supermarket and was a first of its kind innovation when it was installed in 2018, but it has now been relocated following the launch of a permanent funeral booking office in that location.

The idea behind the innovative funeral pod was to create a building that is tailor-made to clients’ needs and that is warm, welcoming and comforting.

The Funeral Arrangement Office Pod is also fully accessible to wheelchair users and clad in responsibly sourced Siberian Larch – a great example of Central England Co-op’s ongoing drive to be environmentally friendly.

Relocating the pod to Atherstone, initially for 12 months, will help us to offer support and guidance to families in the town during these uncertain times.

The office will be overseen by Adam Troop, who has worked for the Society for five years working his way up from being a Funeral Assistant to making his first step as a Funeral Director in Atherstone.

He said: “I am delighted to help lead this new venture for the Society in Atherstone and we are proud to be able to grow our presence and involvement in the area with this new offering to support families in these uncertain times and to being part of a great community.

“I have really enjoyed my journey so far with Central England Co-op Funeralcare. There have been significant challenges, particularly over recent months, but I get great job satisfaction and see it is a real privilege to help families in their time of need to say goodbye to their loved ones.”

While Adam will be Funeral Director for the office, Funeral Services Assistant Kieron Nolan-Burgess will be the day-to-day face of the Society in Atherstone.

Due to current restrictions the arrangement office will initially be available by appointment only, with the office open Monday to Friday, 9am-1pm for pre-booked appointments.

A full range of measures are in place within the office for the safety of colleagues and clients, including hand sanitiser, social distancing measures and colleagues wearing face coverings, with visitors also required to wear a face covering, unless exempt due to medical reasons.

Appointments can be booked by contacting the team on 01827 816779, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
