Blooming success for DJ Nathan

A superstar DJ riding high in the UK charts has spoken of his appreciation for our food colleagues working on the front-line in his local Co-op food store – after making a cheeky request for them to play his new song on the in-store radio.

Burton’s own Nathan Dawe has been enjoying a breakthrough year after seeing his new single ‘Flowers’ featuring Jaykae enter the top 20 and seeing pop royalty Little Mix ask him to remix their latest hit.

However, while he should be out on the road celebrating his success with his growing army of fans in clubs up and down the land, due to the Coronavirus outbreak he has been in lockdown at his home in Stretton.

On his visit to his local Central England Co-op food store in The Precinct, Stretton, Nathan heard a call for song requests and thought he would tweet in to try and get his smash hit played in his local shop.

Nathan said: “The Stretton Precinct store is my local shop as it is in walking distance from where I live so I’m always in there and have been shopping there for years. I heard the jingle come on asking people to tweet in their song requests, so I thought why not?!

“It will be great to hear ‘Flowers’ when I go for my groceries. I’m so proud of the song and how well it has done.”

Asked if he had a message for those Central England Co-op colleagues who have been working around the clock ensuring communities have access to vital food and essentials, Nathan said he had nothing but admiration for the work they have been doing.

He said: “I always shop with Central England Co-op and know the people in there well as many have been working there for years.

“I can’t thank them and everyone in other food stores enough for what they are doing. A situation like this really shows how important their role is and the great qualities they bring.”

Nathan has been using his time at home to show his support for the lifesaving NHS heroes by holding a series of fundraising events, called ‘Stay Indoors with Nathan Dawe’, so far raising over £5,000 for NHS Charities Together.

He said: “I’ve been doing these livestream events on Facebook at 9pm on Saturdays playing a wide variety of music to make it as enjoyable as possible. The reaction has been fantastic, and people have been really looking forward to it and even getting dressed up for it.

“It’s been nice for me as well as it fills that void of entertaining a crowd as even though I’ve been delighted with the success of the single it has been bittersweet.

“Usually when you have a hit like that you would be getting booked left, right and centre for festivals and shows but obviously that can’t happen. To do something like this and raise money for such a great cause has just been a really nice thing to do.”

Customers and Members can listen out for a special interview with Nathan and his new song ‘Flowers’ in Central England Co-op food stores in the coming weeks.
