Artwork adorns funeral home window as part of school community project

Our Funeral home in Spondon has been given an artistic boost thanks to a community project spearheaded by local students.

The home, based in Sitwell Street, now features a selection of stunning artworks in its window after the team threw its support behind the community art scheme run by art pupils from local West Park School.

The 'West Park Nature Project' was the brainchild of new Head of Art Matt Smith. It has seen students create nature-based artwork during lockdown and then display them in shop fronts throughout Spondon to create an 'outdoor gallery' in the village.

The aim is to celebrate art and shift the perception of it in the community, to increase student engagement and rebuild the confidence of young people.

Funeral Director Kate Spencer said: “We are proud of our role as a team that sits at the heart of the community in Spondon and love to be able to support great initiatives that boost the local area.

“The artworks are amazing and we are delighted to be able to showcase in our windows, bringing a welcome boost to our village.”
