A little imagination can take you far

In lockdown many people have been unable to go on their planned holiday, but it’s still important to take a break.

Whether you are currently working for an essential business or service, working from home, or not currently working, staying safe and just needing a break from the new norm.

You may not be able to turn your dream holiday into a reality right now, but marking out your break and making your lockdown “holiday” different and memorable is possible.

Many of our travel colleagues have been working hard in our food stores and know that sampling new things is an essential ingredient of a great break, so why not go on your travels with a trolley around your local store and try a new cuisine?

You could choose fare from the place you were planning to visit, whether it’s fish and chips from the British seaside, Mexican style fajitas or a homemade Italian lasagne.

Inspiration can be found at and remember to accompany your creation with a glass of the national tipple – a beer, a tequila or glass of rioja anyone?

A lazy lie in and a really great breakfast is a measure of a good break for many, so pick up some sausages, bacon, eggs and freshly-baked bread or croissants from our in-store bakery and cook up a late breakfast to set you up for a relaxing day.
Preparation is also key on the cleaning front. Spruce up your “hometel” the week before your break to avoid getting distracted by weekly chores while you relax. Why not add some flowers to make it feel extra special?

If you usually love a spa treat on your hols, you can recreate experiences at home. Turn off the news, turn on the mood music and unwind with some relaxing bath and shower products and your favourite magazines.

Ice cream will forever be associated with holidays, whether it’s a cone in Clacton or a gelato in Genoa, so stock up on your favourites or make your own sweet treat. Sundae on a Sunday anyone?

Homecation planning checklist:
• Prepare in advance - top up on cleaning products and make your “hometel” sparkle
• Plan a holiday-themed menu for the week
• Buy some flowers
• Remember to pick up some magazines and other treats
• Relax
